Our Audience

Our target audience is people who live, work, play, shop, and/or socialize in Olympia and the greater Olympia area, especially downtown Olympia.

These people are young or young at heart, socially and culturally active, and supportive of local businesses. They like to visit restaurants, theaters, bars, arts events, and musical performances; we know this because those are the places where they find OP&L. They are interested in local issues, but are not necessarily political activists.

Our Reporting

We are the only newspaper that exclusively covers Olympia (including the greater Olympia area of Lacey, Tumwater, and north Thurston County).

Our news stories, political coverage, music and theater previews, editorials, and even our fun stuff (like the comics and police blotter) are all about Olympia. And our writers are all from Olympia. We know this town. We don’t try to cover statewide or national news, so we can focus better on local stories that aren’t being told anywhere else.

Our Distribution

Through the end of 2012, we distributed 4000 copies, every other Wednesday, to over 90 locations. As of January 2013, we are distributing 4500 copies to over 100 locations. In February, we will increase to 5000 copies, in April to 5500, and by June we will be distributing 6000 copies to over 200 locations.

These locations cover downtown Olympia, west Olympia out to Evergreen, east through Lacey, south through Tumwater, and everywhere in between. Copies are available at coffee shops, bars, restaurants, bakeries, libraries, college campuses, state office cafeterias, retail stores, theaters, and more — any place people might sit and read or grab one to take home.
