FLOJO THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE

Andrew Flojo left his birthplace of Hawaii to study massage therapy, enrolling in the Seattle Massage School of Fife, earning his LMP certification in 1999. Initially, he worked as a masseuse at The Valley Athletic Club in Tumwater for several years, then at a chiropractic office for two.

“I realized I wanted to be autonomous, not micro-managed,” Andrew recalls, “and began looking for a way to open my own place. I held out for the right location, wanting someplace quiet, safe, with good parking and accessibility. It was perfect when my friend, Christina Petrole, offered me space here at Bare, her skin boutique, which she has been operating for two years. Now it’s like I never left home.”

Andrew’s new massage studio is perfectly suited to the calm and beautiful suite housing Bare, where Christina offers natural skin care products, facials, cosmetics, and waxing. The building is well-situated and fulfills all of Andrew’s concerns successfully. His gentle space is quietly decorated, utilizing art, color and music in healing massage.

“This is my 14th year practicing therapeutic massage,” Andrew says. “I have always found the body fascinating, wanting to learn to help it and care for it. I followed my calling, gaining knowledge, learning about nutrition, emotions, mental states and the like, each affecting the body. I like to bring people into awareness of their own bodies, to talk with them and to listen to them, taking the time one needs to do so. Bodywork is a great tool to bring people back to their bodies, to give exercises to bring them back to the world, enable them to deal with stresses of all kinds. It’s philosophical, too; a way to change habits and live though stressful changes. There is no need to stress about change. I specialize in chronic injuries, offer myofascial and Swedish massage, work with all ages, and always welcome new clients.”

Andrew is a preferred provider with Aetna, First Choice, KPS, Lifewise, Premera, and Regence insurance companies, and bills PIP and L&I. He offers a special one-hour massage for $50 to those visiting for the first time. His regular fee is $65.

“I am always learning,” Andrew asserts. “I am open to new things, interested in learning more about nutrition, and I want to know more about farming, too. As for massage, my intentions are these: to rejuvenate, restore, and relax my clients, to support and nurture a balanced body.”
